Multi-Channel Stereo Panning

Goal:
Multi-channel stereo panning.
It would be very nice and affordable solution desiring better localization if multi-channel stereo panning implementing meaningful panning rules would be possible.
Whereas LCR is a 3-channel stereo system, but higher channel count systems are possible and implemented in sophisticated third-party controllers.
Ex. using the four mains I could imagine a system with upto 8 channels (or maybe 7 assuming a particular center).

Current situation:
Well, using the four mains would be possible but doing the right routing and levelling would be rather bothersome and prone to errors.
Although selective sends (ex. a mono channel) is easily possible, the channel’s send levels do not relate in any way and there is no “panning control”.
