MR18 Gen2?
I love my MR18. (I do small bands and public speaking events out of the back of my passenger car – no space for racks.) It is the perfect physical size for me, enough input channels, clean sound (except when numerical overflow), lovely analogue noise profile, full controllability over OSC, USB all-track I/O.
However sometimes I wish for a refresh of the processing engine. (Especially considerable enhancement of the the input channel EQs.)
Any of the other options (X32 rack/M32/M32C/WING Rack) would add unneeded physical bulk and unused channels for me, so those would not be good options for me to buy.
I would, however, buy – or even better, for environmental waste reasons, upgrade just the processing board – an MR18 Gen2, with a beefed up (or opened up) processing engine and a few other changes. There’s the SoundCraft Ui24 (with it’s lovely network protocol – not that I mind OSC at all –, and built-in web-based GUI – eliminating compatibility issues), there’s the A&H CQ20B recently (96 kHz and other nice goodies).
If this ever comes up on your radar as a possibility, please let’s talk.
