Feature Request: More Flexible Insert I/O Routing (Independent of FX Slots)
Hi Behringer team,
I’d love to request a feature that would seriously improve the flexibility and workflow of the WING console:
Request:
Please allow external insert routing directly to I/O paths (e.g., Dante, Waves, USB) without requiring the use of an FX slot.
Context:
Right now, external inserts are tied to FX rack slots. This feels unnecessarily limiting given the powerful I/O capabilities of the WING — especially when expanded with Dante or Waves SoundGrid. For example, if a user wants to send a bus to a Waves server or external Dante device (like an Apollo 16x or outboard analog gear), they currently need to burn an FX slot to do so. This restricts flexibility for users who also want to run traditional effects in parallel.
Why this matters:
Many modern setups use Dante or Waves for external processing — not just for FX, but for inserts, mastering chains, and parallel busses.
Competing consoles (like the Allen & Heath SQ series) already allow inserts to be routed directly to I/O paths, no FX slots required.
The WING’s matrix-style routing and patching system is already excellent — this would be a natural extension of that flexibility.
What would be ideal:
Let users assign inserts directly to any available I/O channel (local, AES, Dante, Waves, USB).
Keep FX slots dedicated to internal processing or FX chains.
Bonus: Allow mono or stereo insert mapping per channel or bus without tying up full FX slots.
This would future-proof the console further and unlock a ton of potential for users working in hybrid live/studio environments.
Thanks for considering,
